Looking to purchase a professional pole dancing pole?

Here are some helpful guidelines to assist you with making an informed decision.

FAQs about buying a pole:

Types of pole movement:

  • Stationary
  • Spinnning

Stationary poles - You must move your body around the pole to spin

Spinning Poles - You must hold onto the pole and it will spin you

*Most spinning poles are combination poles, meaning there is a way to stop the pole and lock it into a static non moving pole.

Types of poles:

  • Removable
  • Permanent
  • Portable Stage

Removable poles - Does NOT need to be drilled into floor or ceiling

Permanent poles - MUST be drilled into the floor or ceiling

Portable Stage Poles - Can be taken apart into pieces and transported

Diameters of poles:

  • 38 mm
  • 40 mm
  • 45 mm
  • 50 mm

The most common pole diameter is 50 mm.

The larger surface area makes it easier to do tricks that require a lot of grip, such as knee holds, hip holds.

The most common pole diameters for competitions are either 45 mm or 50 mm.

Typically there are 2 poles in a competition setting, one set to static, and one to spin.

Height of Poles:

The average height of a pole is between 7 ft and 9ft.

Poles can be customized to any ceiling height, and some are adjustable height.

Types of pole finishes:

  • Stainless Steel
  • Chrome
  • Brass
  • Titanium Gold
  • Powder Coat

Stainless Steel poles are silver in color, and made of a combination of alloys, and highly polished with a smooth, shiny finish. Most poles are plate coated, meaning the whole pole is not made of stainless steel, just the outer finish. Stainless steel is popular choice as they have a durable finish, and good for a variety of pole tricks, can be slippery for some, and takes a bit more strength to grip. This finish is very easy to do static spins, or leg tricks on.

Chrome poles are silver in color, these are stainless steel poles that have been coated in chromium, and then highly polished with a smooth, shiny finish. Chrome poles are great for those who want to perform all types of tricks on their pole; from inversions to leg holds to mounts. Chrome is generally considered to be slightly more grippy than stainless steel.

Brass poles are gold in color, and are made from a copper & zinc alloy. This alloy is soft, and the finish can become scratched or damaged, and will need to be cleaned frequently to prevent tarnishing. You may also smell copper on your hands after a session, just wash your hands with soap and water. Brass poles have much more grip than either stainless steel or chrome, however, it is harder to do spins on a static brass pole due to the amount of grip.

Titanium Gold poles are gold in color, and are stainless steel poles that are electronically coated with a finish that increases the grip of the pole. If the gold coloring wears off, it does NOT affect the finish of the pole and it does NOT mean that the titanium layer has been stripped off. It only means that the extremely thin layer of titanium that was colored gold, has been worn away.

Powder Coat poles can be any color you can dream of! Normally sold in pink, purple, or black, you can have custom poles made any color or finish you want. Powder coating increases the grip of pole, but again, makes spins more difficult on static mode.
